Additions and Alterations-All Those Nice Little Extras
Once your home leaves the factory, HUD codes do not provide for additions and
alterations, and your home warranty may not cover such modifications.
Modifications can also result in malfunctions or an unsafe home. Any approved
addition should be a freestanding structure that meets local building codes; you
may need a permit for certain additions. Contact your manufacturer, the state agency
that oversees factory-built housing in your state, the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development, or local building officials for more information.
Also, your community may require certain additions to comply with their standards.
Extras can be decided upon at the time of the purchase and included in the financing.
Additional options might include garages, outdoor storage cabinets, cabanas, patios,
awnings, porches, and screened rooms. These are available from the retailer, or a
factory-built home supply company.
